In their season home opener on Friday evening, the College of the Ozarks Lady Bobcats (1-0) soundly defeated Missouri Valley College (0-1) by a score of 98-69.
The Bobcats came out strong in the first half, hitting 21-35 in field goals (.600), four 3-pointers, and going 8-8 in free throws. The second half was a closer match up, as Missouri Valley’s field goal percentage improved from 21% to 39%.
While College of the Ozarks’ senior guard Kayla Kepler led the scoring with 23 points (6-11 FG, 4-8 3 pt), freshman center Lakin Simmerman posted a double-double in her collegiate debut with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Coach Vest was pleased to see four of her new freshman score a total of 40 points during their time on the court.
The Lady Bobcats will return to the court next weekend, as they host John Brown University (AR), Hastings College (NE), and Southwestern College (KS) in the First Community Bank of the Ozarks Classic on November 7-8.
