Lady Cats Win Season Opener on the Road

Lady CatsThe Lady Bobcats began their season on the road at Sterling College (KS) and came away with a hard-fought 83-75 victory.

The Lady Cats held a 43-27 halftime advantage, behind 6-for-10 shooting from the 3-point line and 47% from the field.  At the same time, the Lady Cats held Sterling to 31% from the field, while C of O held a 21-8 points-off-the-bench advantage.

The Lady Warriors came to life in the third quarter, outscoring the Lady Cats 27-18, equaling their first half point total. The Lady Cats answered nearly every Sterling run and withstood a couple of late threes, to pull out a workmanlike 83-75 victory.

The Cats' outstanding depth proved to be the difference, as foul trouble plagued them most of the night. The Lady Warriors shot 33 free throws to the Lady Cats’ 22. Bench play proved vital for the Cats, as 10 players saw game action and outscored Sterling 32-19.

C of O had three players in double figures, led by senior forward Brandy Uchtman (Fordland) with 15, sophomore post Lakin Simmerman (Ash Grove) with 14, and junior guard Hannah Wisdom (Skyline) with 11. Two others finished with 9. The Lady Cats had 17 assists on 31 made shots.

The Lady Cats (1-0) will continue their road trip as they travel to Kansas Wesleyan University (who received votes in the preseason poll) on Saturday evening at 6:30 PM in Salina, Kansas.
