The #3 College of the Ozarks Lady Bobcats were upset by Haskell University, 80-75, in the championship game of the Association of Independent Institutions conference tournament on Sunday in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
The Lady Cats opened up strong and closed the first quarter with a 9-point lead. However, Haskell held the Cats to only 14 points in each of the following two quarters, and although College of the Ozarks came back in the 4th quarter to outscore Haskell 22-18, it was not quite enough to overtake the Lady Indians.
Three-point shooting played a large part in the Haskell win, as the Indians posted 12 treys, six by Cerissa Honena-Reyes alone, to only four by the Lady Bobcats. While C of O captured 22 second chance points and had only 11 turnovers, Haskell held a significant advantage in field goal percentage at 51.6% for the game compared to the Cats' 37.5%.
Leading the Cats with a double-double was Lakin Simmerman (18 pts., 16 reb.), followed closely by Brandy Uchtman (15 pts., 7 reb.) and Hannah Wisdom (12 pts., 5 reb.).
While Sunday's loss was very disappointing for the Lady Cats, only their 4th of the season, they have qualified for the national tournament in Sioux City, Iowa, March 9-15.
At the close of the evening, the Wells Fargo All-Tournament Team was announced, which included Lady Cats' Brandy Uchtman, Hannah Wisdom and Lakin Simmerman.
