The College of the Ozarks Lady Bobcats, who finished the regular season in first place in the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference, were matched up against the fourth seed Central Baptist Mustangs in the first round of the MCAC South Division Tournament on Friday evening. The Lady Bobcats claimed a solid victory, 79-54.
The Lady Cats started off slowly and led the Mustangs by only 5 points headed into the half. However, much to the Mustangs’ dismay, the Bobcats came to life in the second half, posting a 25-8 run during the first 10 minutes of the half to take a commanding 61-39 lead. The Lady Bobcats hit six three-pointers in the second half while the Mustangs went 1-for-7 in that same category.
Leading the Bobcats was senior guard Kayla Kepler, who scored 19 points, draining 5 of her 9 three-point shots. Also leading the attack were freshman Lakin Simmerman (12 points), and Hannah Wisdom and Tanner Merriman (8 pts.). Wisdom also led the team with 10 rebounds and 8 assists.
Leading Central Baptist was Abbi Sterns with 10 points and 8 rebounds.
The Lady Bobcats move to the South finals on Saturday and will take on Oklahoma Wesleyan University, who defeated Central Christian College by a score of 100-62 in the opening game of the tournament. The two teams will tip off Saturday at 3 PM at the College of the Ozarks Keeter Gymnasium in Pt. Lookout, MO.
