The College of the Ozarks Lady Bobcats, ranked #7 in the preseason NAIA DII Coaches' Poll, faced #10 ranked Tabor College on Friday evening in front of a large homecoming crowd in Point Lookout.
The Lady Cats opened up the game by outscoring the Blue Jays in the first quarter by six points. The second quarter found Tabor bouncing back to match CofO with a score of 18-18, giving College of the Ozarks a 36-30 lead headed into the locker room.
Returning to the court for the 2nd half, the Lady Bobcats went on a tear and outscored the Blue Jays 20-9 for a 56-39 advantage headed into the 4th. Once again, Tabor didn't back down, but their seven point advantage in the final quarter was not enough to overtake the Lady Cats' double-digit lead, and the Cats captured the 68-58 win.
The Lady Cats continue to "spread the wealth," as once again new leaders stepped up to secure the victory. Junior Lakin Simmerman tallied 21 points, going 8-for-12 from the field and hitting 5 of her 7 free throw attempts. Joining Simmerman at the helm was sophomore guard Kelsie Cleeton, who collected a double-double on the night, posting 10 points and 10 rebounds, in addition to an impressive 5 steals.
Friday's win takes the Lady Bobcats' record to 4-0 on the season. They will play at home again on Monday, November 7th, against William Woods University, at 7 p.m.
