The College of the Ozarks Lady Bobcats picked up another victory over an NAIA DI opponent on Saturday, as they rolled over Mid-America Christian University (MACU), 89-70.
The Lady Cats and Lady Evangels were all tied up at 18 in the first quarter, thanks to a three at the buzzer by C of O’s freshman guard Kelsie Cleeton. The second quarter saw the Cats close out the half up 10 points, 43-33, and then build on their lead in the 3rd quarter to 68-49 with another three at the buzzer—this time by freshman Cass Johnson.
Johnson led the Lady Cats in scoring, draining six treys for 18 points. C of O also saw sophomore Lakin Simmerman and senior Brandy Uchtman collect double-doubles for the evening; Uchtman had 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Simmerman posted 12 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore Madison Wells led the team with five assists and two steals.
MACU entered the game ranked #1 in NAIA DI for 3-pt FG percentage (.434) and #2 in 3-pt FG made per game (9.88). While they picked up 13 three pointers (Sarai Rodriguez went 5-for-7, Lindsey Mann was 3-for-5, Kelli Tolar hit 4-for-11), their overall shooting percentage was .375 on 64 shots compared to the Lady Cats’ .463 on 82 shots.
The Lady Bobcats, with a 13-2 record, will head on the road to play two games in Kentucky against Division I schools (University of Cumberlands and Georgetown College) early next week and return to their home court on January 16th to face Haskell Indian Nations University.
