Lady Cats Pick Up Big Win as Wisdom Hits 1000th Point

Lady Cat BasketballCofO women's basketball played their first road game of the season at NAIA I #9 Lyon College in Batesville, AR. A sluggish first half had the Lady Cats trailing by as many as 15 before a late run narrowed the halftime lead for the Lady Scots to ten. Tough Lyon defense held the Lady Cats to just 32% field goal shooting and forced 10 turnovers.

CofO cut the ten point Lyon lead to five by the conclusion of the third quarter. The fourth quarter was a back and forth affair. The Lady Cats trailed by three with 39 seconds remaining and decided to make a defensive stand rather than fouling. Kelsie Cleeton pulled down the rebound on a Lyon missed shot and advanced the ball on the dribble before pulling up from the three point line and draining the shot to tie the game with four seconds remaining. Lyon missed a layup at the buzzer.

In overtime, CofO found themselves down three with 2.4 seconds remaining. After a timeout, Cass Johnson nailed a three pointer in front of the Lady Cat bench as time expired to force a second overtime.

The second overtime was a carbon copy of the back and forth play of the night. CofO hit clutch free throws to solidify the game for the final four point margin.

Hannah Wisdom led the Lady Cats with 22 points, 17 in the second half, in route to scoring her 1,000th career point. Cass Johnson finished with 18 points. Kelsie Cleeton had her second double double of the season with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Shelby Roberts scored 15 points to round out the double figure scoring.

CofO is now 3-0 on the season and host #10 Tabor for Homecoming on Friday night at 5:30.
