The #6 NAIA DII College of the Ozarks Lady Bobcats improved their season record to 5-0, as the picked up 112-70 win over the NAIA DI Evangel University Crusaders on Tuesday evening.
Both teams shot well from the field in the first two quarters—56% for the Crusaders and 51.4% for the Lady Cats, but College of the Ozarks held a 62.5% to 28.6% advantage in three-point shooting in that timeframe, draining 5 of 8 treys. Lady Bobcats Kelsie Cleeton and Shelby Roberts put up 11 and 10 points respectively, while Lakin Simmerman and Shelby Roberts added 9 apiece to propel C of O to a 50-38 lead at half-time.
The second half saw the Lady Bobcats step up their offense as they maintained a stingy defense, holding Evangel to 32 points in the final two quarters while scoring 62 of their own to capture the 42-point win.
Overall, the Lady Cats were led by Cleeton and Roberts with 19 points each. Simmerman contributed 13, and 10 points apiece were added by Aleksei Smith and Abby Oliver. Cleeton also tallied a team-high 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals. Roberts was a perfect 3-for-3 in three-point shooting.
The Bobcats shot and impressive 55.4% overall from the field, 47.6% from beyond the arc, and 85.7% of their free throws. College of the Ozarks played every member of their team, and all scored on the night.
Casey Askins (18 points), Sydnee Garrett (17 points), and Paige Patterson (16 points) led the Crusaders, with Patterson adding 6 rebounds and 2 blocks.
The Lady Cats will be back in action on Wednesday at 7 pm, as they head to William Woods University (2-1) to play the Owls, who received votes in the NAIA DI Women's Basketball Coaches' Preseason Top 25 Poll.
