Despite scoring a season-high 106 points, the College of the Ozarks Lady Bobcats fell 106-119 to Olivet Nazarene University on Wednesday evening, as the Tigers handed the Lady Cats their first loss in their last 11 games.
The game had a feel unlike any other, as the ONU Tigers typically substituted full 5-man squads throughout the game, with all 16 team members taking the court, and not a single ONU player accumulating 20 minutes of play. Their pace was quick, and their 19 three-point shots (of 39 taken), as well as their 76% free throw shooting and 54 rebounds, made for a tough battle for the Lady Bobcats.
The Lady Cats scored 52 points in the paint and gathered 14 steals, but they struggled in unusual fashion from the free-throw line hitting only 25 of 39 and going 3-for-12 from the arc.
The Lady Bobcats never gave up. Trailing by as many as 21 points in the third quarter, they chipped away at the lead to draw within 5 points (103-108) with 1:23 remaining in the game, but they were unable to make the final push to close out a win.
Leading the Lady Cats were Brandy Uchtman (19 pts), Hannah Wisdom (17 pts, 5 steals), and Madisen Brethower (17 pts, 5 rebounds). Kelsie Cleeton had a team leading 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Cass Johnson hit all three of the Lady Cats’ three-pointers.
The Tigers were led by Ally Giampapa (18 pts), Abbey Hengesbach (16 pts, 11 reb. 3 steals), and Capriana Christian (15 pts.).
The Lady Bobcats, now 11-2 on the season, will return to the court on Thursday at 3 PM to take on St. Gregory’s University, who lost their game earlier in the day to Oklahoma Wesleyan University, 91-79.
