On Friday afternoon, the #15 College of the Ozarks’ Lady Bobcats opened up the New Year with a big 87-77 win over #9 ranked Southwestern College (12-3) from Winfield, Kansas.
The Lady Builders of Southwestern scored first with a 3-pointer by Jessica Hobbs, but Emily Walker countered with a three of her own to tie the game, and the Lady Bobcats never looked back. At the close of the first half, College of the Ozarks led 35-24.
Southwestern made a run on a couple of occasions in the second half to cut the lead to single digits, but the Lady ‘Cats held strong and finished with a 10-point win.
Alice Heinzler led the College of the Ozarks’ scoring with 19, going 8-10 at the free throw line. Heinzler was not alone, however, as Brandy Uchtman contributed 16, Emily Walker posted 15, and Jeana Raper finished with 12 points including three 3’s. Kayla Kepler and Wren Wiebe led the rebounding for College of the Ozarks with 9 and 6 rebounds respectively. Southwestern’s Sheri Zoglmann was the leading scorer with 21, but bench scoring was key in this game, as College of the Ozarks outscored their opponent 27-9.
Friday’s win brings the Lady Bobcats’ season record to 11-4, with their next game being held at home on Thursday, January 9th, against Crowley’s Ridge College at 2 PM.
