The College of the Ozarks Lady Bobcats emptied the bench today in their 92-48 win over Johnson & Wales-Denver during the A.I.I. Classic in McPherson, Kansas.
The Lady Cats held an eight-point lead at the end of one, and proceeded to outscore the Wildcats 29-8 in the second quarter to take a 51-22 lead into the locker room at the half. The second half found the Lady Cats scoring 23 in the 3rd and 18 in the 4th and saw all players contribute. The C of O bench scored 33 points, and all Lady Cats were afforded seven-plus minutes of playing time during the course of the game.
Solid defense by College of the Ozarks resulted in the Wildcats hitting only 25.9% of their field goals and being out-rebounded, 58-22. Wildcats’ scoring and rebound leader McCorra Ford, who averages 17 points and 11.87 rebounds per game, was held to 6 points and 5 rebounds. The Lady Bobcats, on the other hand, posted an impressive field goal percentage of 52.9, and shot 43.5% as they drained 10 treys. C of O held Johnson & Wales to 13 points under their average scoring.
Lakin Simmerman led all scorers with 16 points and added 5 rebounds and 1 block to her numbers on the day. Cass Johnson also had a big day, hitting 5-of-6 three pointers, grabbing 8 rebounds, and collecting 3 steals. Freshman Ashley Forrest added 12 points, Maggie McMenamy had 11. Kelsie Cleeton picked up another double-double, scoring 10 while pulling down 11 rebounds. Wisdom and McMenamy each dished 6 assists to lead the team.
The Lady Cats will be back in action on Saturday at noon for day two of Central Christian College’s A.I.I. Classic. College of the Ozarks (17-4) will face Northern New Mexico College (10-12).
