The #7 Lady Bobcats continued their shooting frenzy of the night prior, tallying 90 points against Kansas Wesleyan University in Saturday afternoon’s matchup. The Lady Cats handed KWU a loss for their first game of the season, 90-72.
The Lady Cats and Coyotes played fairly closely in the first quarter--the score tied at 18 with 2:52 remaining. However, College of the Ozarks took a 22-20 lead and followed up with 7 unanswered points to close out the first quarter, 29-20. The 2nd quarter saw C of O outscore KWU by 8, holding them to 14 points, which allowed the Lady Cats to take a 51-34 advantage to the locker room at the half. Kansas Wesleyan managed to outscore the Cats in the third quarter by 3, but the Cats were back on track in the final period, allowing them to capture an 18-point victory.
Leading the Lady Bobcats on the day were senior Hannah Wisdom with 19 points, followed by sophomores Cass Johnson and Kelsie Cleeton with 15. Lakin Simmerman also scored double digits with 12. Cleeton and Shelby Roberts headed up the rebounding with 7 apiece, and Cleeton captured 3 steals. The Lady Bobcats shot 50% from the field, including 10 treys.
The win takes the Lady Bobcats’ early-season record to 2-0. They will head to Lyon College in Batesville, Ark. on Tuesday and return home to play Friday evening at home against Tabor College at 5:30 p.m.
