The NAIA DII #9 ranked Lady Bobcats improved their record to 22-4 and extended their win streak to 11 games with a big win over Central Christian College (Kan.), 92-24, on Wednesday night. Prior to the start of the game, Athletic Director Steve Shepherd presented Lady Bobcat head coach Becky Vest with a plaque to commemorate her 100th career win, which took place last Saturday over Haskell Indian Nations University.
The Lady Cats opened up the first quarter against CCC with a 24-2 run and closed out the period with a 24-9 lead. College of the Ozarks continued to shoot with a hot hand, as they extended their lead to 46-16 at the half, shooting an impressive 58.8%.
The second half saw little change, as the third quarter ended at 72-19. By the time the game drew to a close at 92-24, all of the Lady Bobcats had clocked more than 10 minutes on the floor, scored at least 2 points, and posted 2 or more rebounds. Leading the offensive charge for College of the Ozarks were Cassidy Johnson with 14 points, Lakin Simmerman with 13, and Hannah Wisdom with 10. Simmerman led the game in rebounds by pulling down eight.
C of O’s defense held the Tigers’ leading scorer, Abbie Banks, to 3 total points, far short of her 16.10 average. The Lady Cats shot 52% from the field for the game and outrebounded the Tigers 54-20. In addition, the Cats turned the ball over only 5 times, while CCC gave the ball up 22 times.
The Lady Cats will have a bit of a rest before they play their last two games of the regular season on the road. They will face Central Christian College again on February 18 and Crowley’s Ridge College on February 21.
