The College of the Ozarks Lady Bobcats avenged two losses to the Southwestern College Lady Moundbuilders a season ago with an 85-59 victory Tuesday night in Winfield, KS. With the win, the #5 NAIA DII ranked Lady Cats go to 9-1 on the season.
College of the Ozarks shot a season high 45% from the field and 50% from the 3-point line. They also shot exceptionally well from the FT line at 87% (20-23).
The Lady Cats gave up ten points in the first five minutes of the game, but held Southwestern to 49 the remaining 30 minutes, keeping them under their average of 61. Strong defense held the Lady Moundbuilders to 35% shooting from the field and 19% from the three-point line. The Lady Cats held a substantial rebounding advantage, 45-30, giving up only five offensive rebounds while gathering eleven of their own.
Balanced scoring was once again a theme for the night, as it has been most of the season, with five players in double figures, led by Hannah Wisdom with 22, including 3-3 from behind the arc. Maison Bovard followed with 15. Cass Johnson finished with 13 on 4-4 shooting from three, Lakin Simmerman also had 13 and was a perfect 7-7 from the foul line. Brandy Uchtman rounded out the double-digit scoring with 11. All Lady Cat players saw action, and the bench held a 39-15 scoring advantage. Uchtman recorded a team-high eight rebounds, followed by Kelsie Cleeton with six and Bovard with five. The Lady Cats captured 8 steals, with Shelby Roberts and Tristen Underdown acquiring two apiece.
The Lady Cats will be on the road next Thursday, December 10th, at St. Gregory's University in Shawnee, KS.
