Coach Wilson retires and Assistant Coach Vest assumes head coach position

Coach George WilsonAl Waller, Athletic Director at College of the Ozarks, has announced that Coach George Wilson is stepping down after a successful career coaching women’s basketball.

George Wilson, a recent inductee into the NAIA Hall of Fame, has been the women's basketball coach for 16 years at College of the Ozarks, where he has recorded 447 wins and 89 losses. This year he reached the 1,000 win mark including both his high school and collegiate career. He was the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference (MCAC) Women's Basketball Coach of the Year 10 times. This year, his team won the "What's Right in the Sport" award and the Buffalo Funds Champions of Character award. Wilson has won 13 MCAC women's basketball regular-season titles and 15 women's basketball conference tournaments titles. Prior to coaching at College of the Ozarks, Wilson coached high school boys' basketball for 31 years. The College of Ozarks women's basketball team has been the NAIA National Championship runner-up four times.

Coach Becky VestAssistant Coach Becky Vest will assume the head coach position. Coach Vest has served as assistant to Coach Wilson for 11 years.  During Coach Vest’s time as assistant coach the Lady Bobcats have compiled a 325-54 record. The team has been to the national championship each year and has been an Elite Eight team seven of the last nine seasons including five trips to the Final Four and four National Tournament Runner-up finishes.

Vest played for Coach Wilson for two years after transferring from John Brown University. She graduated from C of O in 2003 cum laude with a double major in secondary education and physical education. She completed her master’s degree in Physical Education at Missouri State and currently is a full-time Assistant Professor in the C of O Physical Education department.
