On Saturday, the men's cross country team placed first of ten teams in the St. Louis Fall Cross Country Classic with a team time of 2:15:40.5 in the 8-kilometer race.
Freshman Sam Baumer finished in 3rd place out of 97 runners with a personal best of 26:25.8, less than one second behind 2nd place, to lead the Bobcat team. For the second time this season, Baumer set a new Bobcat individual record time since the program was re-instated four years ago..
This weekend's first-place victory would not have been possible, however, without the combined efforts of CofO's top five finishers. Preston Burgess ran his best race of the season at 27:02.7 (11th place), Dameon Davis posted an 8K personal best at 27:16.4 (13th place), Jon Zimmerman also ran his best 8K of the season at 27:25.2 (16th place), and Shane York finished in 27:30.5 (20th place), Rounding out the race performances for the Bobcats were: Jeremy Wood (27:37.1 – 25th), Loyal Carpenter (27:53.5), Zach Manes with a personal best (27:56.1 – 33rd), David Byrd with a personal best (28:41.2 – 48th), Sam Scaggs (29:19.1 - 59th), and Nic White (29:29.3 – 64th).
“We are peaking at a great time,” stated Head Coach Clint Woods. "It was exciting to see our team complete the race with five athletes in the Top 20, The conference championship is right around the corner, and we are looking to perform well and qualify for nationals.”
The A.I.I. Championship will be held in Bettendorf, Iowa, on November 4th at the same course where the Bobcats raced earlier this month.
