The Bobcats fell to William Penn University in a heartbreaker on Wednesday evening, 106-101.
The Bobcats held the lead in the last minute of the game by 3 points. Amidst a number of fouls by William Penn, Cameron Paschke came up big for the Cats going 6-for-6 at the free throw line in the last minute to hold a 3-point advantage. However, William Penn's Jessie Pernell hit a three-point shot as time expired in regulation to tie the game at 89-89 and the Statesmen ultimately prevailed in overtime as the College of the Ozarks Bobcats dropped their season opener on the road.
C of O senior guard Ethan Murray finished with one of the most impressive single-game efforts in recent memory. Murray hit a new school-record 12 three-pointers on 29 attempts, going 14-for-37 overall while scoring a career-high 41 points. The previous record for most three-pointers in a single-game was 10 held by 2013 grad Mike Wiebe. Murray also added 6 rebounds and 3 assists to his night.
Bobcats’ junior guard Paschke finished with 23 points and junior guard Joe Young posted a double-double with 10 points and 16 rebounds.
William Penn was led by Dondre Alexander who finished with a team-high 40 points.
C of O (0-1) will open up their home slate this Friday night, 7 PM, at the Keeter Athletic Complex as they host Southwestern College.
