College of the Ozarks Bobcats picked up a big road win on Saturday overr the NAIA DI Lyon College Scots, 76-49.
The Scots opened up the game with a quick 8-2 lead, but within minutes, the Bobcats had erased the deficit and outscored Lyon 22-1 to lead 24-9 midway through the first half. Lyon got back on track to minimize the Cats' advantage, but CofO took a 35-26 halftime lead thanks to 14 points by sophomore guard Brandt Cochran.
Lyon College scored the first three points of the second half to close the gap to six, but that was as close as the Scots would come. The Bobcats poured on the scoring, while playing strong defense, to collect a 27-point victory.
The Bobcats shot 31-53 (58.5%) from the field and hit 11-17 (64.7%) of their three-point shots, holding the Scots to a field goal percentage of 36.2% and only 22.2% from beyond the arc. The Cats forced 15 Scots’ turnovers and nabbed 8 steals.
Cochran scored a career-high 24 points for the Bobcats, going 9-14 from the floor, hitting six of his nine 3-point field goal attempts. Cochran added 3 assists, 2 steals, 2 rebounds, and no turnovers to his stats on the day. Also scoring in double figures for the Bobcats were: Ethan Davidson (14pts), Canyon Smith (11), and DeMon Hyler (10). Freshman Calvin Allen led the Cats with 3 steals and 6 assists. Allen, Carmichael, and Davidson grabbed 5 rebounds apiece. Davidson provided the Cats with 2 blocked shots.
The Scots were led by Spencer Brown with 17 points and Emir Sabic with 10, alongside Eric Moses, who hauled in 7 rebounds.
Saturday’s victory brings the Bobcats record to 5-1 on the season, while Lyon falls to 0-4.
