In front of a large and enthusiastic homecoming crowd, the College of the Ozarks Bobcats handed Southwestern College (KS) their first loss of the season by a 91-77 margin.
It was a fast-paced game, with steady action up and down the court. The Bobcats took a 39-32 lead into the locker room at the half, and proceeded to score 52 points in the second half to claim their first victory of the season.
While both teams matched up closely on 3-pointers (C of O hit 8-20 versus Southwestern’s 9-21), the Bobcats held a distinct advantage at the free-throw line. The Cats drained 17 of 22 shots from the charity line (77%) as compared to the Moundbuilders’ 8-16 (50%). The Bobcats had four players score in double digits—juniors Kiefer Starbird and Cameron Paschke each posted 19, junior Joe Young followed with 15, and senior Skyler Frazier delivered 14. Frazier also led the Cats in rebounds with 9. Southwestern relied on their senior forward, Cameron Clark with 29 points, and their senior guard, Chris Waller with 25, to carry their scoring.
The Bobcats (1-1) will host their Highway 65 rivals, Evangel University, on Tuesday evening at 7:30 PM.
