The College of the Ozarks men’s basketball team fell to the Morningside College Mustangs on Saturday evening by a score of 103-86.
The Cats opened up the game with Morningside by taking the first 2 points, and Morningside responded with a trey. The Bobcats managed to stay within a 3-4 point margin until midway through the first half. Some missed shots by C of O, co-mingled with some 3 pointers by Morningside late in the first half, left the Bobcats trailing by 15 (41-56) as they entered the locker room at the half.
The second half saw Morningside stretch their lead to as many as 25 points with 4 minutes remaining, but the Cats were able to hit a couple of three pointers and sink their free throws to close out the game at a smaller margin.
The Mustangs posted an impressive 62.5% field goal percentage, nailed 63.6% of their three-pointers, and hit 9-of-10 from the free-throw line in the first half. Overall, they shot 54.8% from the field, including 57.9% from beyond the arc and 80% at the charity stripe.
The Bobcats were led by Cameron Paschke with 23 points, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Also featured for C of O were: Heath Carmichael (13 pts., 5 assists), DeMon Hyler (12 pts.), and Ryan Burland (13 pts., 8 rebounds). The Cats posted a 45.6% field goal percentage for the game and hit 12-of-18 from the free throw line.
The Bobcats' record now stands at 5-5 on the season. They will return home to face Evangel University on Tuesday evening at 7 PM in the Keeter Gymnasium.
