The College of the Ozarks Bobcats surprised the Tabor College Blue Jays (Kan.) on Friday evening, handing them a 95-83 loss. The Blue Jays came into the game ranked #10 in the NAIA DII Men's Basketball Preseason Coaches' Poll and were looking to pick up a win. Instead, the Bobcats garnered the victory and moved their record to 3-1 on the season.
The game was evenly matched in the first half, although the Bobcats allowed Tabor to score 7 unanswered points just before heading into halftime. The two teams went into their locker rooms knotted up at 45. In the second half, however, the Bobcats got hot, as Cameron Paschke and his teammates went on a scoring frenzy, stretching their lead to as many as 17 points on three occasions, before closing out the win with a 12-point gap.
Paschke led the Cats' by scoring a career-high 36 points, as he went 12-19 from the field, including 5-of-8 from beyond the arc. Paskche also contributed 6 assists and 2 steals on the night. He was assisted by Ethan Davidson, who scored a career-high 23 points, while also collecting a double-double with his team-leading 10 rebounds. Rounding out the trio was Canyon Smith, who tallied 14 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals, including going 3-for-4 from the three-point land. The Bobcats' field goal shooting percentage for the evening was 54.2%, and they hit 91% of their 22 free throws.
The Bobcats will have the rest of the weekend off before facing their long-time rival Evangel University on Tuesday evening in Springfield. Game time is at 7:00 p.m.
