The Bobcats head into Wednesday night’s opening round game of the NAIA DII Men’s Basketball National Championship with high hopes.
The Cats will tip off against Trinity International University (28-5) of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference. Trinity qualified for their national berth by finishing Runner Up in their conference tournament. They have made four appearances in the national championship, with their last being in 2007.
As the host team, the Bobcats enter the tournament holding a 20-9 season record. C of O has made 21 appearances in the DII tourney and holds a 28-19 championship record.
The Bobcats will look to hold down the scoring of the Trojans, who average 87.2 points per game and had four team members post double-digit scoring averages this season. Senior Zach Kirschbaum, at 6'-10, leads the Trojans with 17.2 points per game.
The Cats on the other hand will look to seniors Cameron Paschke (20.7 ppg) and Kiefer Starbird (10.3 points and 8.4 rebounds per game) to take the lead on the court with their seasoned experience in tournament play.
The game will begin at 8 PM, following the Parade of Champions. Fans are encouraged to come out and support the Bobcats as they seek to pick up a big win and move on to Friday’s round of play.
