College of the Ozarks men’s basketball team opened their season with high expectations on Saturday before a large homecoming crowd, but fell to Mid-America Christian University by a score of 84-63.
The Bobcats started off strong and found themselves up by 10 midway through the first half. However, Mid-America chipped away and closed the gap to a 39-40 score at halftime. The Evangels returned in the second half with an improved shooting percentage, while the Bobcats struggled to score. Turnovers were also key, as the Bobcats posted 22 for the game compared to MACU’s 10.
Leading the Bobcats were: Derek Daniels and Cameron Paschke scoring 14 and 12 points respectively, Pete Leonard and Daniels both pulling down 5 rebounds, and Daniels dishing 5 assists. MACU had four players scoring in double digits: Josh Smith (16), Reggie Davis (15), Semar Farris (13), and Jerrick Massengurge (10). Smith was a notable 8-11 from the field.
The Bobcats will head to Mid-America Nazarene next Thursday for a game against MANU on Nov. 6, and a match up against Central Methodist University on the 7th.
