The Lady Bobcats’ volleyball team went 3-0 on the opening day of the A.I.I. Conference tournament being hosted by College of the Ozarks.
The Lady Cats opened the day against long-time foe Haskell Indian Nations University, picking up a 3-0 win (25-17, 25-15, 25-16). The Bobcats capitalized on a poor attacking percentage by the Indians, who posted 27 kills alongside 21 errors, while C of O tallied 45 kills with 14 errors. The Cats also blocked 13 compared to six by Haskell.
In their second matchup, the Cats faced the Red Lions of Lincoln Christian University (Ill.). The Lady Cats fell short in the first set, 20-25, but rallied to win the next three 25-18, 25-17 and 25-18. Senior Logan Allen tallied 12 kills, while freshman Makensi Taylor contributed 7 blocks.
In their final match of the day, the Cats struggled to gain an edge in the match, falling 22-25 in set one and 21-25 in set two. With their hopes dwindling of retaining their #1 seed into Saturday’s play, the Lady Cats rebounded in the third set, opening up with a 7-0 lead, and maintaining their advantage to garner a 25-17 third set win. College of the Ozarks won the fourth set 25-18 to tie up the match, and their 15-12 win in the fifth gave them a come-from-behind victory to close out the day.
The semi-finals of the tournament will take place on Saturday. The Lady Bobcats will face Lincoln Christian University at Noon ; Haskell University will take on Johnson & Wales University-Denver at 2:30 p.m. The winner of each match will play for the A.I.I. Conference Championship at 7 p.m. All games will take place at College of the Ozarks.
