Lady Bobcats Volleyball Opens 2016 Season on the Road

Bobcat VolleyballThe Lady Bobcats volleyball team will open their season on the road this Saturday in a tri-match at Missouri Baptist University.  College of the Ozarks will play Mount Mercy at 5:00 PM, followed by a match against #2 ranked Missouri Baptist at 7:00 pm.  Live stats will be available for both matches, and the 7 PM match will also be video streamed. Follow the Lady Cats at:  http://www.spartandigitalnetwork.com/

The team will look a bit different this fall—with a 16-player roster that includes eight incoming freshmen and one sophomore transfer.  The Lady Bobcats graduated senior stars Lindsay Boone and Jamie Reaves Myers this past spring and lost libero Brandi Stahl and defensive specialist Ashlynn Rogers when they transferred at semester break.   As a result, Coach Edwards has been busy on the recruiting trail and has been successful in adding nine quality members to this season’s roster.

The Lady Bobcats’ newest players feature:

  • Morgan Copeland – Nixa, MO – Outside Hitter/Defensive Specialist:  Varsity Letter, Academic Letterman all 4 years, and Academic All-State.
  • Rielly Dobbs – Nixa, MO – Setter:   2nd Team All-State, 1st Team All-Conference, 1st Team All-District, 1st Team All-Region, OZONE Setter of the Year for Southwest Missouri, and Academic All-State.
  • Kara Gibbons – Nixa, MO – Defensive Specialist:  Varsity Letter and Academic All-State.
  • Shay Helsel – Branson, MO – Defensive Specialist:  Varsity Letter, Academic All-State, and All Tri-Lakes Team.
  • Kaylee Larimer – Strafford, MO – Middle Hitter:  Academic All-State, 1st Team All-State, 1st Team All-Region, 1st Team All-Conference, and 1st Team All-District; won 2nd place MSHSAA Class 2 Volleyball; claimed basketball honors of 1st Team All-Conference, 1st Team All-District, and won the State Championship MSHSAA Class 3.
  • Maggie Plake – Lebanon, MO – Middle Hitter:  Academic All-State, 2nd Team All-Conference, 2nd Team All-District; accolades also include 2nd Team All-Conference and 2nd Team All-District in track.
  • Alex Spears – Perryville, MO – Outside Hitter:  1st Team All-Conference, 1st Team All-District, 1st Team All-Region, 2nd Team All-State; Perryville HS Athlete of the Year; also awarded in soccer--1st Team All-Conference, 1st Team All-District, 1st Team All-Region, and Honorable Mention All-State; Academic All-State 4 Years.
  • Haley Stallings – Fair Grove, MO – Defensive Specialist:  1st Team All-State, 1st Team All-Region, 1st Team All-Conference; claimed 1st Team All-District in soccer and softball; Academic All-State 4 Years.
  • Makensi Taylor – Ozark, MO – Middle/Rightside Hitter:  Varsity Letter and Academic All-State.

Seniors Logan Allen, Sarah Kreul, Brandy Glessner and Chloe’ Shepherd return for the Lady Bobcats, alongside juniors Danielle Curnes and Hannah Bracker, and sophomore Halle Huffman.

Coach Edwards is excited about the energy her newcomers will bring to the court and looks forward to her returners providing leadership and experience.

The Lady Bobcats will host 13 matches in the Keeter Athletic Complex, including a 5-set scrimmage on August 23rd at 5 PM against Southwest Baptist University, followed by a Tri-Match on August 30th to officially open their home season.
