Lady Bobcats Sweep Evangel

VolleyballThe College of the Ozarks Lady Bobcats continued their winning ways on Tuesday evening, as they picked up their eighth consecutive win by defeating Evangel University, 3-2, in Point Lookout, Mo.

The evening started out a bit shaky for the Lady Cats, as Evangel tallied 19 kills and C of O posted 3 service errors, giving set one to Evangel, 25-18.  C of O rebounded, however, taking the 2nd and 3rd sets in closely contested games (27-25, 25-22).  The fourth set went to Evangel by a two-point margin at 25-23, thanks to two 4-point rallies during the set.  The final set went back and forth until the Lady Bobcats took an 11-10 lead and never looked back.

Lady Bobcat freshman Haley Stallings set a school record for most digs in a match with 49 during Tuesday’s competition.  The previous Lady Bobcat record was jointly held by Jami Arasmith (set in 2005) and Brandi Stahl (set in 2014), both of whom posted 46 digs.  For the past six weeks, Stallings has ranked #1 in the NAIA for most digs per game with 7.25.

Featured in the Ozarks stat charts for the match were:  Kills – Logan Allen (16), Alex Spears and Brandy Glessner (14); Blocks – Hannah Bracker (5); Assists – Rielly Dobbs (34) and Sarah Kreul (27); and Digs – Stallings (49) and Danielle Curnes (27).  Lady Cat Alex Spears posted a double-double, delivering 14 kills and collecting 20 digs.  Evangel’s stat leaders included:  Jorie Garrett (19 kills), Sandy Mohr (9 blocks), Brianna Justis (34 assists), and Alli Dunton-Moss (33 digs).

This is the first time in the last eight seasons of matchups that College of the Ozarks has swept the Crusaders. The Lady Bobcats picked up a win in their first match against Evangel earlier this season in Springfield, also by a score of 3-2.

Tuesday’s victory moves the Lady Bobcats’ record to 17-10, while Evangel’s loss takes them to 16-9 on the season.

The Lady Bobcats will head to Central Methodist University in Fayette, Mo. this weekend, where they will face Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Friends University, Crowley’s Ridge, and Hannibal LaGrange.  The Cats will return home for Senior Night on Tuesday, October 18th, at 6 PM against Central Baptist College (Ark.).
