The College of the Ozarks Lady Bobcats volleyball team lost a heartbreaker at home on Thursday evening, falling 3-2 to William Woods University (25-22, 20-25, 25-23, 27-29, 10-15). The loss drops the Lady Cats one game below the .500 mark at 9-10, while the Owls move to 11-7 on the season.
It was a hard-fought match, as the Lady Cats and Owls traded sets, all of which had score differentials of 5 or fewer points. College of the Ozarks had some opportunities to put the Owls away in the fourth set, but couldn’t close out the game, giving the Owls an opportunity to push the match to five sets.
The Owls’ Victoria Day provided 22 kills, Brittney Englebrecht put up 55 assists, and Jssica Jensen collected 38 digs to lead William Woods to victory.
Leading the way for the Lady Bobcats with a double-double was sophomore Alex Spears (Perryville, Mo.), who tallied a team-leading 18 kills alongside 12 digs. Stat leaders for the Lady Bobcats featured Danielle Curnes grabbing 31 digs, Rielly Dobbs dishing 39 assists, and Makensi Taylor posting 4 blocks.
The Lady Bobcats will have some time to regroup, as their next game will be held on September 22nd at home against Central Christian College.
