The College of the Ozarks Lady Bobcats’ volleyball team picked up their 14th consecutive win on Saturday, as they defeated Mayville State University (N.D.), only to have their amazing streak snapped by the Bellevue Bruins in the game that followed.
In a two-game series played at Bellevue University, the Lady Bobcats first faced Mayville State University, who entered the competition with a record of 10-19. C of O won three consecutive sets against the Comets, 25-13, 25-16, and 25-23. Leading the stats chart for the Cats were Danielle Curnes and Brandy Glessner each driving 10 kills, Rielly Dobbs handing off 22 assists, Alex Spears serving up 4 aces, Haley Stallings digging 18 balls, and Logan Allen blocking 6. For the 11th time this season, freshman Rielly Dobbs posted a double-double as she collected 10 digs in addition to her team-leading 22 assists.
In the second matchup, the Lady Cats faced their long-time foe, Bellevue University, who is currently ranked #21 in the recent NAIA poll. C of O dropped 3 sets to the Bruins, 14-25, 19-25, and 24-26. The Lady Cats struggled on the attack, posting 31 kills with 21 errors and a .081 attacking percentage compared to the Bruins’ 53 kills, 18 errors, and .267 attack. Bellevue had three players with double-digit kills, while Lady Cats’ Danielle Curnes, Hannah Bracker, and Alex Spears were the team leaders with 6 kills apiece. Sarah Kreul led the Cats in assists with 16, Halley Stallings gathered 16 digs, and Curnes, Logan Allen, and Makensi Taylor tallied 3 blocks each.
College of the Ozarks continues to hold several top 5 places in the NAIA rankings. The Lay Cats are currently #1 in total digs (2,773), #2 in digs per game (23.5), #3 in total kills (1,650) and total assists (1,452), and #5 in kills per game. Libero Haley Stallings holds the #1 spot in total digs at 843 and digs per game at 7.14.
The Lady Bobcats’ season record now stands at 23-11 overall with two matches remaining. They will head to Fulton, Mo. to face William Woods on Saturday at 1 p.m. and will host Bellevue University on November 3rd at 5:00 p.m. for their final match of the regular season.
