College of the Ozarks’ Lady Bobcat volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss to nationally ranked #11 Evangel University in Springfield on Tuesday evening (15-25, 20-25, 11-25).
The Lady Bobcats’ best opportunity for taking a set from the Crusaders was in the second game, where the Bobcats held a 3-point lead midway through the set. However, the Crusaders rallied to post a 25-20 victory.
Leading the Bobcats were Hannah Bracker with 7 kills, Danielle Curnes gathering 12 digs, Lindsay Boone posting 17 assists, and Sarah Kreul firing 2 service aces. Evangel leaders featured Haley Watson-15 kills, Chloe Hadley-22 assists, Morgan Smith-15 digs, and Briana Justin and Haley Watson-2 service aces.
This is the third consecutive match in which the College of the Ozarks has faced a team ranked in the NAIA Top 25, filled with solid hitters and exceptional defense. The Lady Cats may currently hold a 2-7 record to start the season, but they are not discouraged. With a similarly tough schedule to open their 2014 season, the Bobcats were better for the experience and rallied as the season progressed to make their way to a conference title and national championship opening round. With that experience in their back pocket, they are determined to press on and do the same this season.
The Lady Bobcats will spend the weekend at The Courts in Springfield, with matches scheduled Friday against Lindenwood University-Belleville at 1 PM and Tabor College at 5 PM. On Saturday they will face William Woods University at 2 PM and Central Baptist College at 4 PM. The Lady Bobcats are looking forward to taking the court for their first home competition of the season on Thursday, Sept. 17, at 8 PM against Missouri Southern University.
