The College of the Ozarks Lady Bobcats opened their 2016 volleyball season on the road this past Saturday at the Missouri Baptist Triangular.
Match one found the Lady Bobcats in close competition with Mount Mercy’s Mustangs, losing the first two sets 19-25 and 21-25. In set three, the Lady Cats came back with a 25-23 win, but they were unable to maintain their momentum, losing set four 15-25. Stat leaders for the Lady Bobcats featured Hannah Bracker (9 kills), Rielly Dobbs (17 assists), and Haley Stallings (27 digs).
College of the Ozarks faced Missouri Baptist University in their second match. Missouri Baptist, ranked #2 in the NAIA preseason polls, defeated the Lady Bobcats in three sets, 25-14, 25-17, and 25-14. The Spartans dominated the stats, holding the edge 48-22 in kills, 7-3 in service aces, 43-18 in assists,15-1 in blocks, and 65-46 in digs. Stat leaders for the Lady Cats were Danielle Curnes (5 kills), Sarah Kreul (10 assists), and Haley Stallings (21 digs).
The Lady Bobcats will host a 5-set scrimmage on Tuesday evening, August 23, at 5 PM against Southwest Baptist University, before heading back on the road for a tournament at Oklahoma Wesleyan this weekend. College of the Ozarks will officially open their home season on Tuesday, August 30th, facing Williams Baptist College at 3 p.m. and Central Methodist University at 7 p.m.
