Facing four highly competitive teams, two of which are ranked in the NAIA Top 25, the Lady Bobcats came home empty handed from Bellevue University's Labor Day Classic.
Their first match, facing Doane College, was a back-and-forth affair of two well-matched teams. The Lady Cats won the first set 25-23, then lost the second by the same score. Set three was a 25-21 victory for C of O and set four a 25-21 win for Doane. In the final match, Doane took an early lead and managed to hold on for a 15-9 victory and an overall 3-2 win.
Later that afternoon, the Lady Bobcats were matched against Baker University. Their first set was closely contested, with Baker coming out on top, 25-22. The following two sets, however, found the Lady Cats’ struggling to effectively connect with the ball and losing both sets by a score of 25-12.
Saturday’s opposition included two teams in the top 25. Facing #25 Dordt to begin their day, the Lady Cats played them well but were only able to capture one set (17-25, 25-20, 19-25, 16-25). Chloe’ Shepherd and Danielle Curnes led the Lady Cats with 15 and13 kills respectively, while Brandi Stahl (20), Curnes (19) and Shepherd 16) each gathered double-digit digs.
The Lady Bobcats’ final matchup was against #12 ranked Northwestern College, who dominated the net offensively and swept the match 25-16, 25-22, and 25-13.
Overall stat leaders for the weekend were: Kills – Danielle Curnes (44), Aces – Ashlynn Rogers & Sarah Kreul (5), Blocks – Lindsay Boone & Jamie Reaves (10), Assists – Lindsay Boone (73), and Digs – Brandi Stahl (71).
The Lady Bobcats will head north to Springfield on Tuesday evening, September 8, to face the #18 ranked Evangel Crusaders at 7 PM.
