College of the Ozarks’ Lady Bobcat volleyball fell one game below the .500 mark (6-7), as they faced tough competition this weekend in the Bellevue Labor Day Classic in Bellevue, Nebraska.
Friday afternoon, College of the Ozarks played a tight match with University of St. Francis (IL), but fell 3-1, with no set having greater than a four-point decision. (21-25, 25-23, 22-25, 21-25).
The Lady Cats took on Montana State University-Northern on Friday evening and picked up a win in exciting fashion. After losing the first two sets, the Cats made a comeback to win in five sets (19-25, 22-25, 26-24, 25-23, and 15-10).
Saturday’s competition found the Lady Cats facing #10 MidAmerica Nazarene and #17 Madonna University (MI). College of Ozarks played competitively but was unable to overtake either team, losing both matches with a score of 3-0 (v. MidAmerica 13-25, 22-25, 18-25 and Madonna 18-25, 20-25, 15-25).
Stat leaders for the Lady Bobcats over the weekend featured: Danielle Curnes and Alex Spears with 36 and 34 kills respectively, Rielly Dobbs and Sarah Kreul with 76 and 59 assists, Haley Stallings with 108 digs, and Logan Allen with 9 blocks. Season stat leaders are: Stallings (FR) - 12 aces and 326 digs, Spears (SO) - 102 kills, Dobbs (FR) - 247 assists, and Allen (SR) - 37 blocks.
The Lady Bobcats will continue their trek on the road—but a bit closer to home—this Tuesday as they face Evangel University at 7 p.m. in Springfield. Be sure to head up north and help us cheer on the Lady Bobcats.
