Bobcat Volleyball Opens their Season on the Road

VolleyballThe College of the Ozarks Lady Bobcat volleyball team will open their 2015 season with a bevy of matches on the road.  The Bobcats’ first match will be held at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar on August 25th at 7 PM.  The ladies will follow up with tournaments at Missouri Valley College, Bellevue University, and Evangel University, along with single games at Evangel and William Woods University.  On Thursday, September 17th, the Lady Bobcats will host their first match as they face Missouri Southern University at 8 PM in the Keeter Gymnasium.

The Bobcats finished strong in 2014, posting a 7-1 conference record, capturing the regular-season conference championship and conference tournament, and earning an opening round match in the NAIA Division I National Championship.   Head coach Stacy Edwards states, “While last season was exciting, we are not looking back.  We have a new team with a new set of goals.  We may have a different outlook, but we have the same mission:  growing closer to Christ as a unit while competing at a high standard in the classroom and on the court.”

Heading into the season, Coach Edwards and the Bobcats are pleased that many veteran players are returning to the court, including All-Conference and All-American Honorable Mention middle hitter Jamie Reaves and four All-Conference award recipients—libero Brandi Stahl, middle hitter Logan Allen, and setters Lindsay Boone and Sarah Kreul.

The Bobcats are also looking forward to the contributions of three new recruits to the 2015 squad—Halle Huffman, a 5’9” freshman outside hitter from Poplar Bluff, Danielle Curnes, a 5’10” sophomore outside hitter from Crowley County Community College and Reeds Spring High School, and Brandy Glessner, a 5’9” junior right side hitter from Evangel University and Republic High School.

Edwards, in her second season as head coach, commented, “Our team has meshed extremely well during the preseason.  We are excited to see how this solid sense of comradery and strong work ethic both on and off the court will positively impact us as we seek to achieve our goals.”

The Bobcats’ are eager to get their 2015 season underway and invite the community to cheer them on to victory.  The volleyball schedule is posted on the College’s athletic website at Regular season home games are free of charge and are played at the Keeter Gymnasium on the College of the Ozarks campus.
