After securing the MCAC Conference crown and defeating Bellevue University and Oklahoma Wesleyan University to claim the MCAC Championship, the Lady Bobcats packed their bags and headed out of town. Their bid to the 2014 NAIA Volleyball National Championship Opening Round took them to Ashland, Oregon to face the Southern Oregon University Raiders on Saturday, November 22nd.
SOU entered the match with a 22-5 record, sharing the top spot in the regular season Cascade Collegiate Conference, and ranked No. 17 in the season's final coaches poll. The Bobcats, who were unranked, went into Saturday's match having won 10 of their last 12 matches.
Unfortunately, the Lady 'Cats were unable to extend their season, falling to the SOU Raiders in three sets, 17-25, 15-25, 14-25. SOU posted 43 kills compared to the Bobcats' 23, with the Raiders' Motade Atanda delivering 14 kills herself.
Leaders for the Bobcats featured senior Jenny Wuerffel with 7 kills alongside senior Hannah Brown and sophomore Brandi Stahl, both of whom garnered 10 digs.
Saturday marked the final collegiate appearances of seniors Hannah Brown, Jenny Wuerffel, and Kayley Walker, each of whom made significant contributions to the 2014 team. The Bobcats close out the season with a 16-15 overall record, leaving their fans with some great memories.
