College of the Ozarks' baseball team continued its winning roll on Friday, beating Central Christian College 6-1 and 14-7 Friday in McPherson, Kan. The Bobcats (18-15) have now won five in a row.
In game one, Garrett Woods continued to dominate on the mound with a convincing 10-strikeout performance. He allowed just five hits and walked none in pitching a complete game for his fourth victory. C of O exploded for five runs in the top of the first inning against CCC starter Andrew Hightower. Tyler Whiteis drove in a pair of runs with a two-out double and J.D. Chadwell and Winston Rasmussen added RBI singles in the frame. Chadwell and Jacob Karlson led an eight-hit C of O attack with a pair of hits apiece.
In the nightcap, it was another fast start for the Bobcats. Tad Mitchell started the scoring with a three-run homer in the top of the first inning. Cody Hull and J.D. Payne would follow with solo homers of their own in the following innings as the Bobcats tacked on three more runs in the second and four in the third for a 10-1 lead. Central Christian would rally to cut the lead to 12-7 in the fourth, but C of O added insurance runs in the top of the sixth for the victory. Alex Stephens came on in relief of Christian Vonderheide and pitched 3 and 1/3 scoreless innings to pick up the victory. Mitchell was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with three RBI and three runs scored. Payne and Whiteis each had three hits and Dylan Heitz and Austin Schweiss had two apiece as the Bobcats drilled CCC pitching for 16 hits in the game.
College of the Ozarks (18-15) and Central Christian (14-21) will continue the series with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at noon.
