College of the Ozarks Baseball Bobcats battled back from a 7-0 first inning deficit to defeat Columbia College (Mo.), 17-14, on Tuesday afternoon in Pt. Lookout, Mo.
After collecting two quick outs from the first two batters of the game, C of O proceeded to give up 7 runs to the Cougars in the top of the first inning. The Bobcats were not daunted, however, by the deficit, posting 1 run in the bottom of the first and five in the bottom of the third to draw within one run, 7-6. The Cats gave up three runs in the top of the fourth, but responded with a nine-run bottom of the inning, which featured a triple and double by Dylan Heitz, a double by Jacob Karlson, three singles, and three walks. The teams traded runs in the 6th and 7th, each scoring one per inning. The Cougars tried to mount a charge in the top of the 9th, but only managed to push two runs across the plate.
Leading the Cats at the plate were Jesse Fisher (3-5, 2 runs, 2 RBI), Winston Rasmussen (3-6, 3 runs, 5 RBI, w/double and home run), and J.D. Chadwell (3-4, 3 runs). In addition, Heitz, Tyler Whiteis and Chad Reusch went 2-for-5. Jansen McQuerter picked up the win for the Bobcats, allowing 3 earned runs on 6 hits, with 3 strikeouts and 3 walks in 5 innings pitched.
Tuesday’s win brings the Bobcats’ record to 11-7 on the season, while Columbia College drops to 8-7. Following a month that featured almost 20 home ballgames, the Bobcats will head on the road in March, facing Rogers State (Claremore, Okla.) this coming weekend.
