College of the Ozarks Bobcats picked up two big wins over DI Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU), Texas, on Friday afternoon, 13-4 and 7-3.
In game one, sophomore righthander Collan Thrasher took the mound for the Bobcats and pitched a complete game, giving up 4 runs on 9 hits, striking out 4, and walking one. The Bobcats trailed SAGU 3-1 as they headed into the bottom of the 4th, but the Cats proceeded to put a 10-spot on the board to take a commanding lead and never look back.
J.D. Chadwell, who held the DH spot in the lineup, walked and homered in the Cats' big 4th inning, scoring twice in the inning and driving in 3 RBI. Winston Rasmussen was 1 for 2 with a double and a walk, and Tyler Whiteis, Jacob Karlson, Dylan Heitz, and Jesse Fisher, each of whom hit 1-for-3 in the game, combined to tally six runs scored and six RBI.
Game two saw senior righthander Alex Stephens throwing for the Bobcats. C of O took a quick 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first, with a lead-off single by freshman Chad Reusch and a two-run homer by Dylan Heitz, followed by back-to-back doubles from Chadwell and Fisher. The Cats added three more in the fifth, thanks to singles by Rasmussen and Reusch, followed by a Karlson double and Chadwell single. The Lions and Cats each scored one run in the 6th to head into the 7th with a 7-1 Bobcats lead. The Lions collected two runs with a 2-run homer by Donovan Williams off reliever Logan Schuh. Tad Mitchell then took the mound to close out the game and secure a victory for the Bobcats.
College of the Ozarks moves to 13-10 on the season with today's wins, while SAGU's record now stands at 10-18. The two teams will take the field again tomorrow in Pt. Lookout for a doubleheader beginning at noon.
