The College of the Ozarks baseball team capped off their weekend four-game series against Avila University with a 9-5 win on Sunday afternoon.
The Bobcats opened up the bottom of the first with a home run by Jacob Karlson and scored 3 additional runs in the inning to take an early lead. Both teams added a run in the third, and Avila came back with 3 in the top of the 4th to draw within one run (5-4). The Bobcats added three in the 5th and one in the eighth to extend their lead to 5 runs headed into the 9th.
Leading the 11-hit day for the Cats was catcher Dylan Heitz, who went 3-for-4 with one run scored, one RBI, and 2 stolen bases. Center fielder Austin Schweiss was 2-for-3 at the plate, including a double, and 3 RBI; second baseman Kole Kelley was also 2-for-3 on the day.
The win brings the Bobcats' record to 9-9 on the season. Having played 15 consecutive home games, the Bobcats will take the road this Tuesday to play a doubleheader against Lindenwood University-Belleville (Ill.)
