The Bobcats swept Lindenwood University-Belleville in Tuesday afternoon’s doubleheader, winning game one, 7-6, and game two, 4-2.
In game 1, the Bobcats took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd, thanks to base hits by Tad Mitchell and Cody Hull, a wild pitch, and doubles by Austin Schweiss and Jacob Karlson. Although the Cats proceeded to give back four runs in the top of the third, they returned in the bottom of the inning to pick up two additional runs. A solo homer over the left field fence by Bobcat Jacob Karlson in the 4th, gave College of the Ozarks a 6-4 lead. The Lynx put together 2 runs on 3 hits in the top of the 5th to tie the score at 6, but Wyatt Saltarelli, pitching in relief, held the Lynx scoreless in the 6th and 7th, allowing the Cats to capture a win in the 7th on a Dylan Heitz double, followed by a pass ball and a wild pitch.
Leading the Bobcats at the plate in game 1 were: Tyler Whiteis (2-for-3), and Jacob Karlson (2-for-4 with 1 run scored, and 2 RBI, including a double and a home run). Wyatt Saltarelli picked up the win.
Game 2 saw College of the Ozarks take a 4-0 lead into the sixth inning before Lindenwood-Belleville scored two runs. Bobcat freshman pitcher Collan Thrasher threw a great game, going 5.2 innings and giving up 2 runs on 7 hits. Senior reliever Jason Myers came in to close out the game and earn a save, as he allowed no runs on no hits with 2 strikeouts and no walks.
Bobcat leaders at the plate in game 2 featured Austin Schweiss (2-for-3 with 2 RBI) and J. D. Chadwell and Dylan Heitz (both 1-for-2). Thrasher picked up the win.
Today’s two wins, combined with two wins against Lindenwood-Belleville on March 1, complete the season sweep for the Bobcats.
College of the Ozarks is now 16-15 on the season and will head to McPherson, Kansas later this week to face the Central Christian Tigers (14-19) for two double headers on March 25 and 26.
