Dylan Heitz had a big day Saturday and so did the baseball Bobcats. The redshirt freshman homered three times to lead College of the Ozarks to a doubleheader and series sweep of Central Christian College in McPherson. Kan.
Heitz hit a pair of 3-run homers and J.D. Payne added three hits as the Bobcats defeated Central Christian College (CCC) 11-3 in the opener. Logan Teal was the winning pitcher for C of O, limiting the Tigers to just four hits.
In the series finale, Heitz was the hero once again.
C of O jumped out to a 4-1 lead, keyed by a pair of RBI singles by Payne. CCC responded with a 3-run fourth inning aided by two C of O errors to tie it up. The Tigers took a 5-4 lead in the fifth off closer Jason Myers, and the Bobcats found themselves trailing for the first time in the series.
In the top of the 7th, however, Heitz hit a 2-run home run over the center field fence to put the Cats back on top, and Myers pitched a perfect bottom half to earn his sixth victory.
College of the Ozarks, winners of seven straight games, improved to 20-15; CCC fell to 14-23.
The Bobcats return to action Friday with the start of a four-game series in Dubuque, Iowa against Clarke University.
