After suffering a 3-0 loss on Friday, College of the Ozarks used a sterling pitching performance from Christian Vonderheide to earn a baseball split Saturday at NCAA Division II Rogers State University.
The sophomore from Shumway (Ill.) dominated the potent Rogers State offense, scattering seven hits, striking out four and walking just one batter as C of O beat the Hillcats 3-1 in Saturday's opener.
The Bobcats scored a run on a two-out single by redshirt freshman Dylan Heitz in the third inning, then added a pair of runs on two-singles by Hunter Humphrey and Tyler Whiteis in the fourth.
Vonderheide gave up a solo run in the sixth and then pitched out of a first-and-third situation in the seventh to earn his first victory of the year. Humphrey led C of O with a pair of singles.
In the nightcap, College of the Ozarks were doomed by four errors in falling 7-2 to the Hillcats. RSU (13-4) scored a pair of runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to break open a tied game.
Cody Hull and J.D. Chadwell each had two hits, as did Heitz, who added his third home run of the season to tie score in the fifth.
The Bobcats (12-11) return to action this Tuesday at Coach Bob Smith Field, hosting Williams Baptist in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
