College of the Ozarks Bobcats brought their bats to Sunday’s A.I.I. Conference tournament game in Lawrenceville, Georgia, as they tallied 17 hits in their 8-4 defeat of Fisher College (Mass.).
The Bobcats fell behind 1-0 after giving up a run in the bottom of the first due to a dropped third strike and wild throw on what would have been the third out of the inning, followed by two singles. But the Cats settled in and put their bats to work, scoring two runs in the 4th, three in the 6th, and three in the 9th.
The Cats were led by Tyler Whiteis (3-for-5 with 1 run, and a double), Tad Mitchell (3-for-5 with 2 runs and 1 RBI), Dylan Heitz (2-for-4 with a triple), and J.D. Payne (2-for-4 with 1 run and a double). Also contributing to the hit parade were Cody Hull (2 hits, 2 runs, 2 RBI, with a double) and J.D. Chadwell (a double, a 2-run homer, 1 run, 2 RBI).
Senior Garrett Woods picked up the win for the Cats, giving up 2 earned runs on 9 hits in 7.2 innings, walking none and striking out 11. Freshman Collan Thrasher closed out the final 1.1 innings, shutting down Fisher by allowing no hits or runs.
With the win, College of the Ozarks eliminated Fisher College from the tournament and will move on to face the loser of the Clarke and Texas A&M-Texarkana game. The Bobcats will play at 8 AM (Central Time) on Monday.
