Bobcat baseball made a valiant effort in the late innings, but they were unable to pull off a weekend sweep of Avila University, falling 7-5 in Sunday afternoon’s 9-inning contest.
After trailing 7-1 headed into the seventh inning, the Bobcats scored two runs in the eighth and again in the ninth, but they fell short of overtaking Avila. The Bobcats picked up 12 hits, with left fielder Cody Hull having another great day at the plate, going 5-for-5. Landon Teal, shortstop, added two additional hits, including a double.
Alex Stephens took the loss for the Bobcats, giving up 4 runs on 7 hits in his 5 innings pitched. Cody Lewis picked up the win for Avila, giving up nine hits but only allowing 2 runs in his 7 innings pitched, while Jamie Good picked up the save.
Sunday’s loss brings the Bobcats’ record to 3-4 on the season. The ‘Cats will head south to play a double header against Ecclesia College on Tuesday afternoon at 4 PM in Springdale, Arkansas, hoping to take their record back to and over the 500 mark.
