Bobcats Close Out 2013-14 Season

Bobcat BaseballThe College of the Ozarks’ Bobcats closed out their 2013-2014 season on Friday evening, May 2, after going 1-2 in MCAC Tournament play. 

The Bobcats opened the conference tournament on Thursday afternoon, hosted by the conference regular-season champion Oklahoma Wesleyan in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, with an 8-7 win over Central Baptist College. In regular season play, Central Baptist was 4-0 against the ‘Cats, but the postseason provided the opportunity for a Bobcat win.  Junior Josh Neufeld was the starting pitcher for the Bobcats and went seven innings, allowing seven hits and four strikeouts while only walking two batters. The Bobcats’ Silas Bohannan (pictured) hit a grand slam over the right field wall, giving the Bobcats a lead. The Cats added one more run in the top of the 6th on a sacrifice fly by Bohannan, scoring Landon Teal, and giving the Bobcats and 8-7 victory.

C of O was then faced with a match up against the No. 1 seed, Oklahoma Wesleyan, on Thursday evening.  Timmy Townsend went 2-3 to lead the ‘Cats on offense, but OKWU’s Zach Hendrix held the team to 6 hits and no runs for a 6-0 victory.  Landon Jarrett struck out 5 and walked only 2, but took the loss. 

On Friday evening, the Bobcats played Bellevue University in the elimination game and were defeated by a score of 11-5.  Offensively, the Bobcats posted 9 hits, with Silas Bohannan going 2-3 with a home run, and Tyler Lopez and Cody Hull both going 2-4.  Timmy Townsend went 6.2 innings, giving up 8 earned runs on 12 hits, with 4 strikeouts and 4 walks. Reaves, Myers and Bohannan pitched in relief to close out the game.  Bellevue’s Brennan Henry held the Bobcats to 5 runs on 9 hits with 9 strikeouts and 2 walks.

The Bobcats completed their 2013-14 season with an overall record of 24-26, improving over last year’s 19-24 record.  Stat leaders for the 2013-14 Bobcat season include:
