After struggling at the plate most of the weekend, losing two games Friday and a one-run game on Saturday in 10 innings, the Bobcats' offense exploded on Sunday.
College of the Ozarks pounded out 15 hits en route to a 11-8 victory over host and A.I.I. foe Texas A&M-Texarkana (TAMUT). It was a breakout for the Bobcats and the hits came fast and furious.
C of 0 broke out of a slump with 6 runs in the third inning--the big blow featuring a two-run double by Austin Schweiss. The Bobcats added another run in the fourth on J.D. Chadwell's first home run of the season.
After the Eagles cut the deficit to 8-6 and knocked out starter Christian Vonderheide in the fifth, Collan Thrasher came on in relief and stifled TAMUT until the ninth.
The Bobcats added three runs in the 8th for insurance and they would prove to be the difference.
Cody Hull was 3-for-6 with a pair of runs and Tad Mitchell was 3-for-5 with two RBI. Jacob Karlson, Dylan Heitz and Schweiss each added two hits. Vonderheide picked up the win for the Cats.
Leading the Bobcats at the plate for the weekend were junior outfielder Austin Schweiss and freshman infielder Tad Mitchell. Schweiss was 5-for-11 (.454 avg.) with a double, 3 RBI and 2 runs scored; Mitchell went 6-for-14 (.429), scoring 4 runs and driving in 2.
College of the Ozarks (22-21) returns home to host #8 Missouri Baptist (31-8) on Tuesday in a doubleheader beginning at 1 pm. Texas A&M-Texarkana fell to 25-13.
