College of the Ozarks baseball received two big honors this week. Senior Alex Stephens was named the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Pitcher of the Week, and junior shortstop Jacob Karlson was named NCCAA Player of the week for the week ending February 19.
Stephens, a senior from Branson, Mo., pitched his third straight complete game to improve to 3-0 on the season as the Bobcats picked up a 9-3 victory over #13 York College on Saturday. He allowed eight hits and lowered his season ERA to 2.35. He struck out six batters and issued zero walks for the Bobcats.
Junior Jacob Karlson went 6-for-13 (.462) with 5 runs, 4 RBI, 2 doubles, and a home run to lead College of the Ozarks to a split with NAIA No. 13 York College. The Nixa, Missouri native led off the bottom of the 4-4 seventh inning in Saturday’s final game with a line drive and scored the winning run in the Cats’ come-from-behind 5-4 victory.
The Bobcats are off to a great start with a 9-4 record against some tough competition. They will play a 4-game series at home this weekend against Ottawa University.
