As College of the Ozarks Head Baseball Coach Neale Richardson works hard to prepare his team for their season opener at Evangel University on February 17th, he is continuing to pursue talented athletes to strengthen next year’s team.
Cooper Whitworth of Burlington (KS) High School signed a letter of intent on Thursday, January 22nd, to play for the Bobcats in 2015-16. Whitworth has been the starting catcher for the Wildcats since his freshman year; he also plays middle infield, with experience at shortstop and second. He is a multi-sport athlete at Burlington High School – being a 4-year letter winner in football and 3-year letter winner in basketball along with his achievements in baseball. Whitworth also plays summer ball for the Natural Baseball Academy in Olathe, Kansas.
On the diamond, Whitworth holds some impressive stats. In his 2014 season, the switch hitter had a .466 batting average and .548 on-base percentage, with 29 RBI and 15 stolen bases. His 2013 stats included a .510 average, .653 OBP, 15 RBI, and 15 stolen bases.
Whitworth is excited to join the Bobcats and stated, “I am willing to play wherever Coach needs me.” Coach Richardson and the Bobcats look forward to the talents and abilities Whitworth will bring to the team in the years ahead.
