The College of the Ozarks Bobcats took the field against the Evangel Crusaders in Pt. Lookout on Tuesday afternoon. The Bobcats won the first game of the doubleheader (6-1) and were led by first baseman Malachi Melton, who went 2-for-3 at the plate. Melton belted a double and a home run, driving in two RBI. Designated hitter Silas Bohannan also contributed at the plate, going 1-for-3 with 2 RBI. Ozarks’ pitcher Alex Stephens went seven full innings to claim the win, giving up no earned runs and striking out 6 batters. Crusaders’ first baseman Christian Maciel was 2-for-3 and scored the Crusader’s only run.
In game 2, Evangel took the early lead, but the Bobcats came back with 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th and missed tying up the game by inches, as Malachi Melton’s long ball to left center hit the top of the fence and bounced back into play rendering a double rather than a game-tying home run. The Crusaders went on to close out the game with a 4-3 victory. The Crusaders posted 10 hits; Koby Gaddis got the complete-game win, allowing 3 earned runs and striking out 7. Trevor Bowling (2-3, 2 RBI) and Tyler Marion (1-2) led the Bobcats at the plate. Jason Myers posted the loss, pitching 5 innings and giving up 7 hits and 4 runs.
The Bobcats’ 2014 record stands at 4-4.
