Excited by finally getting on the baseball diamond, the Bobcats dropped a heartbreaker Friday in Conway (Ark.) against host Central Baptist College. The Mustangs (1-0) rallied to tie the game in the ninth inning and scored on a walk-off single by Austin Kuchinski in the tenth for a 4-3 victory over the Bobcats.
College of the Ozarks starting pitcher Garrett Woods was exceptional, leaving after six innings with the scored tied 1-1. Woods surrendered just four hits and struck out seven.
After a home run by CBC's Jalin Lawson staked the Mustangs to a 1-0 lead in the third, the Bobcats (0-1) answered it in the fifth. C of O's J.D. Payne doubled into the left field gap and scored on Tyler Whiteis' two-out single. The Bobcats' took advantage of a huge CBC error in the eighth as Kole Kelley raced home from second base on a botched infield pop-up with two outs to give C of O a 2-1 lead. Jacob Karlson then singled in Austin Schweiss for a 3-1 edge. But CBC rallied to score one in the bottom of the eighth and one in the ninth to tie it 3-3, before finally winning it in the 10th on Kuchinski's two-out single up the middle.
Payne, Karlson and Whiteis were all 2-for-4 to pace the Bobcats' game 1 offense.
Saturday found the Bobcats suffering a 10-1 loss in game one and a 5-3 loss in game two.
The Cats (0-3) look to pick up some wins this coming weekend, as they play a 4-game home series at the newly-renovated Bob Smith Field on the C of O campus against Graceland University. The Bobcats will take the field at 1 PM for double headers on both Friday and Saturday. Come on out and cheer them on!
