Sunday was a rough day for the C of O Bobcats, as they were shut out by Fisher College, 17-0, in Day 2 of the 2019 A.I.I. Baseball Championship tournament.
Fisher’s pitcher, Johann Doerrer, had a one-hitter headed into the bottom of the ninth, with Ryan Daggs having tagged a double to deep right center in the bottom of the fifth. The Bobcats looked to make a move in the ninth as Max Pulley and Kyle Abrahamson knocked two back-to-back singles with one out. However, Doerrer shut down the next two hitters to close out his complete game shutout, giving up only three total hits.
Meanwhile, the Falcons tallied two runs in the second, three runs in the fifth, and one in the sixth to take a 6-0 lead after six. It was the seventh inning that sealed the deal for the Falcons, as they put an eight-spot on the board to take a 14-0 lead. In the ninth, Fisher scored three additional runs to bring their total to 17.
Collan Thrasher is charged with the loss, allowing eight earned runs on 14 hits over six innings. Ozzie Sindland, Sean Neal, Ethan Whitis, and Isaac Norsic pitched in relief for the Bobcats.
The loss eliminates the Bobcats from the tournament (0-2).
